New Bulletin Philanthropy Today 2/2025: Episodic Volunteering

The nature of volunteering has changed. Whereas in the past, long-term commitment to a particular organization was the norm, today's volunteering is characterized by flexible, individual, and often short-term forms of participation. This change opens up new opportunities for society, but also presents concrete challenges for nonprofit organizations.

In the current issue of Philanthropy Today, Lucas Meijs, professor of strategic philanthropy and volunteering, examines this changed form of engagement and its implications from different perspectives. Lukas Niederberger, philosopher and theologian, also provides an insight into his newly published book and reflects on volunteering in Switzerland. In an interview with Sarah Kreis, Head of Volunteer Management at ESC 2025, we also get a behind-the-scenes look at volunteer coordination at Europe's largest music event. In addition, we look back on 15 years of CAS Impact Management at CEPS and show how the topic of impact has gained importance beyond the NPO sector.
