Our first MOOC – a nice success

Title

The Center for Philanthropy Studies (CEPS) can look back on a very successful run of its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). From April to June 2019, almost 2,600 participants from more than 150 countries took a closer look at the topic «Entrepreneurship in Nonprofits» on FutureLearn – a nice and encouraging success.

The online course guides participants through the world of entrepreneurship and nonprofits. In five modules, videos and text material convey concepts such as Path Dependency Theory, Financial Management and Impact Investment in Social Enterprises. Experts from theory and practice discuss questions such as «What makes a social entrepreneur successful?» and «Do we really make change?». The MOOC is aimed at experienced social entrepreneurs and anyone interested in the topic. The learning success lies in the fact that participants can contribute their own experiences to the comments section and thereby exchange ideas. The comment area is moderated in order to answer individual questions and stimulate discussion.

The MOOC «Entrepreneurship in Nonprofits» is also an integral part of the <link de cas-global-social-entrepreneurship external-link-new-window internal link in current>CAS Global Social Entrepreneurship offered by the CEPS. In this CAS, the CEPS provides participants with the necessary knowledge to plan, manage and implement social initiatives in a developing or emerging country. We are delighted with the great interest and positive feedback we have received for the first implementation of our MOOC. And a rerun is already planned: In summer 2020 the course «Entrepreneurship in Nonprofits» will enter its second round. We are already looking forward to many participants and exciting discussions.
