Instructive PhD Workshop Made Possible by EUCOR
On February 7th and 8th 2019, the Center for Philanthropy (CEPS) at the University of Basel and the Department of Public and Non-Profit Management at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg jointly organized a workshop for Ph.D. students in Feldberg-Falkau (Germany), kindly supported by EUCOR.
The geographical and thematic proximity of the two partner institutions offered an excellent opportunity exchange ideas and stimulate mutual learning. On the one hand side, the Ph.D. students benefitted from the combination of the expertise of the participating senior researchers regarding both data availability and data collection from Switzerland and Germany and diverse theoretical and methodological tools. On the other hand side, the joint work by Ph.D. students on their respective research projects helped them to critically examine and further structure their research ideas and projects. To use the words of one participant: «These intense two days offered me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of research methodology and to find inspiration from research projects and approaches of my peers. It was also a very valuable experience regarding critically examining other Ph.D. students work and providing valuable feedback.»
