Podium place for Swiss philanthropy
Following the publication of the Global Philanthropy Environment Index in April 2018, the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy of the Indiana University and DAFNE (Donors and Foundations Network in Europe) published the European edition of the index at the beginning of October 2018. On a scale of 1 to 5, it measures how easy it is to become involved in philanthropy in a country. Factors such as the regulation of philanthropic organizations, laws governing national and international donations, as well as the political and socio-cultural environment are all included in the index.
From a Swiss perspective, the result of the report is pleasing. While Switzerland ranks 4th at the global level, among the thirty countries investigated in Europe it reaches the podium, coming 3rd just behind Finland and the Netherlands. In comparison with other leading countries, it becomes particularly clear that local politics still has little interest in philanthropy and that there is room for improvement in the cooperation between authorities and philanthropic organizations.
CEPS is pleased that Prof. Dr. Georg von Schnurbein, who acted as country expert for Switzerland, contributed to the preparation of the report.
